Accommodation

Our immediate priority is ensuring young people have a safe place to live. A secure home gives young people a foundation to build a positive future, and for many, it’s their first step into our services.

What we do

There’s a growing need for housing for vulnerable young people. With long social housing waiting lists and few move-on options, care leavers and young people facing homelessness can struggle to find safe housing. Rapidly rising private rental costs are also pushing out those on low incomes or benefits.

1625 offers a range of accommodation to help young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

‘’The best thing about the house is having support and people around, not being on my own’’
‘’I am more independent now, and getting help to understand how to be a single adult’’
‘’St George’s House feels like a community. Tuesday music sessions are great. My support worker is really helpful as my goal is to live independently with my son.’’

Housing

1625 manages three 24/7 supported housing projects in Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Each has specific areas of focus and support for young people in a variety of circumstances.

Charles England House

Charles England House, based in Patchway, with 20 self-contained units which can accommodate couples and children, which include a kitchenette and a bathroom

St Georges House

Based in the centre of Bristol, St Georges House has 21 beds and includes a ‘Crash Pad’ offering short-term emergency accommodation for young people facing homelessness.

Woodleaze

Woodleaze, based in Yate, South Gloucestershire, has 18 beds in self-contained studio flats with shared spaces and facilities to allow a range of support services to be delivered on-site. Over half the residents are care leavers, with the other half from a range of other backgrounds including homelessness or those at risk of homelessness.

Supported Housing

1625 manages a further 270 bed spaces across Bristol, in a range of properties such as terraced houses for shared accommodation, and single–bed flats. All young people who live in these properties have a support worker who works with them on their independent living skills and tenancy management skills.

Future Builders

Future Builders is a programme in partnership with Every Youth and Bristol City Council to make affordable accommodation available to young people participating in education, employment, and training opportunities. This enables young people to take the first step towards their future without worrying about the impact on their benefit allowance.

Establish

Establish is a project run in partnership with Andrews Charitable Trust. The purpose of Establish is to provide high-quality, affordable and safe housing to young people vulnerable to homelessness, as they grow into independent adults.

Asylum & Refugee Housing

Bristol:
The Asylum and Refugee team manages 12 bed spaces across 3 shared houses in Bristol. Young unaccompanied asylum seekers are supported to apply for their leave to remain, integrate into the community, access education, and build on their independent living skills. Once Refugee status has been gained, the young people are supported to move on into independent accommodation.

Asylum & Refugee Housing

South Glos:
The project supports unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people who are, or have previously been, in the care of South Glos Social Services. The young people are supported to apply for their leave to remain, access suitable accommodation, integrate into the community, access education, and build on their independent living skills.

Bristol Youth MAPS

Bristol Youth MAPS, based in central Bristol, is a multi-agency hub for preventing homelessness in young people aged 16-21 (up to 24 by referral). In partnership with Bristol City Council and supported by 1625, MAPS offers guidance on housing, mediation to help young people stay at home, and support in finding privately rented or supported accommodation.
